Reviews you read in magazines these days don't really give you a true indication of whether the game is any good or not.

The review may be 5 pages long but most of that is pictures and screenshots, some of which take up half the page, there is very little text and what text there is doesn't go very indepth in describing in pros and cons with the game, just the outline of what the game is about and how many billion poligons are whizzing around.

The lack of a second or third person giving theie view is sorely missed, do any magazines do that now?

Thinking about it, a lot of game reviews remind me of the way Your Commodore (NOT YC) used to review games, they would be on a single page with a screenshot and most of the text would just describe what the game was about and contain only a quick roundup of the reviewers thoughts on it. No depth and soley one persons view.

I guess a lot of it is being that games and computers have become totally mainstream now and reviews have been "dumbed down" to appeal and be readable to the broader market.
