Yeah, I've always loved, and STILL love the Infocom stuff. Lurking Horror is the one I'm working through at the moment. |

you know the thing about text adventures ,was that they were always so chuffing hard. some of the puzzle were obscure in the extreme .and once you found a showstopper of a puzzle it was effectivly gameoverstill play'em though corbs |

One of the first games I ever played was Dennis through the looking glass on the Select 12 compilation!! Got it at the same time as my C64 in 1984. It was all about the Thatchers in10 Downing Street!! I could never get out of the initial few rooms and still can't now!! |

Mostly coz they were so chuffing hard!!! anyway... the only text adventure i ever finished was this porno one called sweet sixteen, in which u have to score with some chic named nova; or was it denise??? errr... anyway, no points for pointing out WHY that was the only text adventure i ever played :P |

>you know the thing about text adventures ,was that they were always so chuffing hard. some of the puzzle were obscure in the extreme<Tell me about it. I play (Rebel Planet? Red Moon? I don't remember the damned thing's name now), and there was this ring device which transported you through some giant sphincter, and I typed in all kinds of commands -- use ring, get on ring, operate ring, and whatever the f**k else -- and the solution was RIDE RING. Sorry to sound so insane about it, but it drove me nuts at the time. As for still playing adventures, I do occasionally get Colossal Cave out, and Kayleth, and a few other favourites; but the parsers are so weak I give up pretty soon. Kati was always the big adventure player though, being Chuck Vomit and all... G |

I still play the Infocom games and just finished Infidel. My favourites on the 64 were the disk games the Pawn & Guild of Thieves, they had good parcers and amazing graphics even now for the 64. I also had a soft spot for Terrormolinos, Seabase Delta,Heroes of Karn and Subsunk. |

so what we're saying in the majority is, Yes! we enjoyed/enjoy text adventures as they appealed to our masochistic tendencies ,but we would have enjoyed them a whole lot more if. 1.the parsers worked 2.no obscure puzzles (ie feed bat to the clock to open the cheese grater)3 graphics (i know ,i know we didn't talk about them but didn't you just hate the way you had to pull them down in the pawn. although they were very pretty. 4 i can't think of any more somebody help me here corbs |

Yeah, I still play them. Only modern ones though, or the Infocom or Level9 ones through an interpreter - they're way too slow on an emulator :)David

Rebel planet..ah memories! I can't believe I wasted the precious moments of my youth playing that turkey. The funny thing was, you could solve the last puzzle without playing most of the game. Favourite text adventure was Rigels revenge, excellent game with a great story. Never managed to finish it though...anyone know how it ended? raz |

Text games rule. A cottage industry of texter games sprung up towards 'the end' and Zzap and Commodore Force were always putting a couple on the covertape. Anyone know where I can get some for my PC? |

For text games for PC, look at www.ifarchive.org, especially in games/zcode/ and games/tads/To get these to run you'll need the appropriate engine, see the faqs in info/ for details, or ask on the usenet group rec.games.int-fiction David
