So, what are your opinions of the new ZZAP!? I've just downloaded the lo-res version just so that I can read it, and I've had a quick scan through it, and it looks really, really good. I can't believe we did it, I think I'm going to get all emotional.

I'm going to make a more considered and lengthy post tomorrow, but in the meantime, those who are on GMT, whaddya think of ZZAP! 107?

What can i say!?!?!?! I am lost for words! Dumb struck! Speechless!!!

This looks..... no lemme rephrase that... this IS the rebirth of ZZAP!!! I dont see how this is any different from the original ZZAP!

The layout, the design, the reviewer comments, EVERYTHING is just PIXEL PERFECT!!!

Hats off to Craig, Ant and everyone related to the look/layout! You have done a wonderful wonderful job!!

And what can I say about the reviewing team (plug plug!), I just remembered all the laughs I used to have back in the hey days of ZZap... and by gosh.... they have returned!!!

Most of all, I'd like to thank Gordon for his colossal contribution. The editing of the magazine pars with any decent publication out today.

This should show all those crappy magazines out these days, how it should be done!!

Congrats everybody! this is a huger success than I ever imagined! :)

well i'm actually happy to say that i actually have to come in to work tommorrow , so i can blatently just use the colour printer.
Its a totally brilliant read although the white wizard (my favorite reviewer ever was criminally underused)thanks for effort chaps
i'm only sorry i was away getting married for 107's recruitment drive...

Overall... very, very good :)

A few niggles here and there (which I'll stick on the Yahoo list), but given the undertaking and first time nature for many people, an excellent job!

Well I've printed the little bugger out... bloody hell did that take a long time cache'ing up. The pdf file is 30Mb... the printer turns this into 5.5Gb for output! But having waited for it to cough the pages up, it looks great printed out. Now, to try and get a glossy, properly folded and bound copy made heh...

Just read the PDF version. It exactly captured captured the spirit of Zzap in the golden era. Excellent work guys, kudos to everyone involved! :)

Well, I've read the whole thing now, and I have to say I think it's a remarkable achievement. It really captures the spirit of ZZAP! 64, and it's a fitting tribute to the magazine we love, and more besides!! Special congrats go to Gazunta for organizing this, to Gordon for keeping the ship (relatively) tight (in other words, just like the old days, a very relaxed feel), and especially to all the art guys, for totally capturing the ZZAP! look. Everyone involved, and all those that wanted it to happen, should be rightfully proud! I know I am....

Iain has JPEG files of the pages, so it's up to him whether he uploads in that format. For what it's worth the quality of the PDF is *way* higher and the download is about the same size.

As for Zzap #108, it is a possibility, but one I certainly don't want to entertain for a while yet.

Finally got around to reading the New
ZZAP! - my verdict?.....VERY VERY GOOD!!
The design was faultless and the writing
very imaginative.
My only niggles - Should have been more of
everything (esp tips and interviews), however I appreciate the effort it took!
Were the letters mostly made up?
CraigG posted 28-02-2002 02:53 PM GMT     Click Here to See the Profile for CraigG  Click Here to Email CraigG
Well, it took five months to get 36 pages, so if it had been any bigger it probably wouldn't have happened at all!

As for the letters, as far as I'm aware, they were *all* genuine...

leet posted 28-02-2002 03:35 PM GMT     Click Here to See the Profile for leet  Click Here to Email leet
Sorry Craig, wasn't criticising as I can only
guess the trouble it took to put together..
Just wishful thinking!

Yeah, I know you weren't! :)

Would've been nice to rival *that* Chrimbo special, but then a) we'd all have gone mad and b) we'd all have gone mad.

:)

Gordon posted 28-02-2002 06:44 PM GMT     Click Here to See the Profile for Gordon  Click Here to Email Gordon
...and c) we'd have all gone mad.

Leet -- yep, all the Rrap letters were genuine. I received around 30 in all, and selected those as the best.

G.

As for the wish-list, yeah it would have been nice to have more tips, more space for Dimitris' 10,000-word epic history of Zzap! :), but particularly more for the Adventure section, and web features. But I think we should be very happy with what we did. In the olden days, when I were but a big-boned whippersnapper, we used to get paid, you know...

Well just thought i'd say thanks to all the guys that put the effort in. A great read and it looks fab all bound up on my desk.

You should have seen the look on my mates face when I showed it to him last night! What a picture, he kept re-reading it over and over.. Funny how he seemed to get glued to page 2 though, looked just Like Kenz 8o)p

Thanks all, and if you do make another any chance it might even have a printed version, Perhaps some people would even pay up front for one? I'm not talking about starting it all up again but maybe one last issue printed and bound would be fab?

..Ahh wishfully thinking again chortle.

I thought Zzap 107 was incredible! I read every word of it and thought every article was interesting. I learn new things that I did not even know about like the retro C64 music and demos. I got my C64 from the closet and have it setup and using it again after so many years.

I have just stood and read the news section
in WH SMITH!...It basically shows a few
screenshots of ZZAP!107 and mentions that
it can be downloaded from this site, and
also mentions the megatape that can be
downloaded.
Quite a good plug!

Aaaarghh!
pLEASE TELL ME (oops) please tell me which issue, March? April?
See, I can't open them in the shop since they come sealed here!
And I don't wanna spend 10 euros for the wrong one.
What is it? MArch or April?
Thanx a million!

Think it will be the April issue, as they
come out a month before their coverdate
in the UK(if you know what I mean!)
(eg February issue on sale in January)
