I am gonna be controversial here...
I think that CC64 and VICE are not easy
enough to understand for most people - Judging from the amount of 'How do I use?'
on LEMON.
Personally I use PCWIN64 - Think I got it on a coverdisc years ago and it is pretty reliable.
Why cant someone write an C64 emulator that is as good as ZX32, the excellent speccy emulator.
Views please...

CCS64 V2.0Beta is easier than earlier versions (you dont have to know how to use the 1541 - you hit F9, select a file and it loads it up)

I've only used one emulator on a PC and I can't remember which, but I know it was a pain to use. I'm currently on a MAC and Power64 has to be the best emulator for any system I've used.

i find (btw) that the best Speccy emu is X128
the best ST emu is Steem 2 and the best Ami emu is UAE.

I find WinVice the easiest one to use...

I know this is months after the thread, but I'm with Mnemonic.
Power64 is superb.
The answer is simple - Think different!
Get a Mac!
I'd have thought Commodore owners would have gone the same route as me - from CBM to Apple. Once the Amiga had finally finished it could only be Apple for me. And as a reward we got an excellent 64 emulator.

"Once the Amiga had finally finished"

And by that you mean?

Why not get yourself an AmigaOne?

Or a Pegasos (should run AmigaOS 4 as well)

I need to ask a favour....
Would anyone out there (pref UK) be able to
make up a CD for me with MAME and some ROM's??
I would be able to pay for a CD plus postage.
Thanks in advance...

No offense meant here ;-)
I know how magnificent the Amiga was / can be, but I finally gave in at the start of 1997 when an Apple Mac became my main machine taking over from my 030 Amiga 1200HD. I carried on picking up the odd Amiga mag up until a few months ago when the last one on the WHSMiths shelves finally disappeared. But realistically what I needed to be able to do with graphics and music could not be supported by the Amiga. I admit I'm not up to speed with the software that's out there for the Amiga now, but can it really boast hard disk recording software like Emagics Logic Platinum? Or graphic programs with the power and accessibility of Photoshop and Freehand? I stuck with it and stuck with it, but couldn't do what I wanted to do. The super Amigas were still too expensive (and still look expensive from what I've seen) and the specialist software too hard to find. I adore Commodore machines. I started with a VIC (not a Pet) way, way back, before moving up through 64, 128 and Amiga, and as I said used it as my only computer up to 1997.
I would take advice on what I can get and do with a 'new' Amiga though. I love the feel of the Amiga, more than the Mac, so please get in touch with advice, but surely you understand what I mean. Just like the C64 hasn't died, I didn't mean to infer this of the Amiga. I know there's hardware and OS updates going on, but... (I must stop rambling now). But do pass on info about what I really need to get a useful Amiga going.

I too have left the Amiga scene for a while, I still have my A3000T and A3000UX machines and they still work fine.

From what I've seen recently the Amiga just lacks software since the hardware side has been cured via the introduction of PCI daughterboards. The best CPU still remains a 68060/PPC combination (and not a very up to date PPC either).

As for why the C64 emulators aren't as good as spectrum emulators, the c64 is a complicated beast!!!

The official SID documentation is innacurate (follow it and you get awful sound), the CPU has undocumented op-codes and the VIC has been pushed to the limits with lots of trickery by determined game/demo coders.
