Gordon's eBooks

I was just browsing Gordon's site and I see he has a new page up there related to eBooks and how you can now get his books on that format, including a new (?) one called "Game Boy".

Seems like you can also buy them as a PDF, plain text etc. for $3.99, which isn't too bad at all.

There's quite a generous sample available as well.

[update]It's actually pretty engaging, just found myself reading the first 15 pages when I only meant to browse.[/update]

as ... useless as a Phillips CD-i
hehe, I like that one.
Not that Zelda fans would agree though...or something.

Late as usual. :-)

Just finished another one, too -- the first one for five years, now that my last child has finally gone to school and I can write all day. It's off to my agent first, though, to see if he likes it enough to try it with a publisher. Being a lazy git, I tend to give up if he doesn't like stuff, rather than trying the Enid Blyton method of circulating it among 25 publishers until you find one that will take the risk...

Anyway, confused rant over.

I just bought the three of them recently. Haven't had a chance to start reading Game Boy yet. I read The Apprentice while I was in America but bought it again... I figured that even if I didn't read it again, it's quirky and interesting enough for the missus to like it (she likes quirky and interesting).

Good to hear you've finished another one.

:)

Ta, Mr Moz. I'm currently hawking this one around: my usual agent liked it, but doesn't deal with science fiction, so he put me on to another couple of agents he knows who do. It could be a long wait.

If I don't have any success after six months or so I'll put it up on Smashwords, and start writing a new one in October...

Hello!

I've written another novel, and it's available now in ebook format. It's a science fiction story called MAX, and this is the promotional blurb:

"A dystopian society on the brink of revolution; a population chipped, regulated and drugged into submission; an overpopulated planet defined by the One Mother, One Child policy... Into this world a baby is born: a child with the power to change everything."

And here's the first review I've received for it on Smashwords (which is nice, because I only published it a couple of days ago):

"An imagined world which goes beyond Orwell and Wyndham, drawing inventively on the ways we sacrifice freedom for convenience. Are we already choosing to be controlled so we no longer need to think? By tearing off society’s sugar coating the author paints a future which is all about now. Incisive, intricate, chilling and moving. Highly recommended." (5 stars).

It's available in pretty much every format for every device going, including mobi (Kindle), epub (Stanza), lrf (Sony Reader), pdb (Palm), as well as PDF and rich text formats. You can buy it or download a sample here: http://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/GordonHoughton

Also, to celebrate the release of MAX, all my other books on Smashwords are on sale at half price for one week! Use the following coupons:

The Dinner Party: GP88Q
The Apprentice: ZF63W
Game Boy: LQ28S

Cheers
Gordon

Sounds interesting. Must buy the Game Boy one as well, hopefully I'll get a chance to read them before Ben is 18! ;-)

if you want to do up any banners for your books Gordon, I can pop them in my rotation no problem.

Sounds good. What do you need me to do? :)

Yeah, if you want those banners on the Compilation64 website too, just give me a shout...

MAX sounds pretty much right up my street. Might have to purchase when I get some free time to read... bloody work... mumble, mumble...

Give me an image (JPG or PNG) with the dimensions of 468 x 60 or 728 x 90.

Hey Andy, maybe you can fix those dead image links while you are adding Gordo's banner to the site. ;-)

Cool. I'll get down to it this weekend and PM you here when I'm done.

And @Andy: yep, that'd be grand, too. :) Do you need the same size of image, or something different?

Same size will do!

@Ian - I know, I know! Time, time, time... I actually need to redesign some stuff slightly, because I found a neat little bit of script that enlarges images when clicked on.

Well in fairness Andy, I can't talk. Plenty of dead links around here I'd say! :)

In even more fairness, your *main* links (archive of ZZAP) at least work, but my *main* links (archive of compilation covers) don't.

Right, I've added a banner for MAX at the bottom of the page:

http://compilation64.zzap64.co.uk

Only one for now because I'm having some issues with the FTP server (Iain check your PM!!!) and when the problem is sorted, I'll change it to a rotating banner with all three banners Gordo sent me and will place them on more pages.

I've also added a small news item about the book release in the new news system...
