I think its odd how certain ex-staffers seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth - Ones I am thinking of are Phillipa Irving (strategy columnist) and Daniel Gilbert (who lasted about two issues).

Anyone got any ideas on tracing them?

It would be great to be able to track down all the old Zzapers, although it would probably take a lot of phone calls and a good bit of detective work.

Regarding Phillipa, she really just did the section part time while she was in college so it's unlikely she has anything to do with the publishing world these days which makes it harder to find her.

WHo was it that years ago said in the future everybody would have a personal web page? If that had come true, it would be much easy to find people! ;-)

Well I got in touch with several ex-Newsfield staff last Summer, in order to interview them and publish the results. Sadly personal events overtook me and I had to abandon the project.
However I might well dig out the completed interviews and rejuvinate the project....

Yes, you definitely should! There used to be a site with a few old interviews of the staff, but it disappeared a year or so ago. The staff section on my site has definitely been neglicted the past while.

It would be great if I could integrate your interviews on this site.

Gordon's site has more up to date facts on past staff.

Post subject:  Staff - Oliver Frey

Did anyone hear any rumours relating to Oliver Frey? I did and can`t post them here for legal reasons and all, was just wondering if it was just me who had heard them.

Well there was a bit of controversy about a year ago on LEMON about some of his drawings, but if you want to pm me to tell me about these rumours I would be interested to hear!

Post subject:  where are they now?

Hi guys,
first: Fiery Phoenix, please PM me about what you've heard about Oli, gee I'm curious!

second: Iain mentioned the following: "There used to be a site with a few old interviews of the staff, but it disappeared a year or so ago."

Actually I made a back up of that site. I forgot the guy's name (he had quite a familiar name, I can recall), but he was happy that I did since his server crashed and he didn't have a backup of his own 'where are they now' site. So I still have this site on my harddisk.
I guess it wouldn't be too polite to actually put the whole thing on the net again without asking him, or rip the content out and place it on someone else's site? Any thoughts?

Duh! I just checked those files (the site's not complete though), and the owner of that site was: (cough) Maff Rignall  He just signed in on this board 'here today'! (nice McCartney song by the way) Can't believe I forgot it was Maff
I'll PM him right away, or maybe he reads this. (Hi Maff!)
Ta!

It would make sense to coordinate and gather together all those interviews and put them on Iain's site, cutting out the bits that overlapped. That's assuming he wants them, of course... :)

From that perspective, if everything was moved over to zzap64.co.uk, I'd also be happy for him to use any of the text from my own Zzap! Towers section to supplement his interviews: http://www.the-burrow.freeserve.co.uk/z ... owers.html -- I don't think he has Warren Lapworth, Steve Jarratt, Phil King or The Harlequin (though Maff had one or more of these).

That would be great, my consolidation of Zzap sites would almost be complete then >:-)

Let me know what Maff says about the interviews and I'd be very happy to put them on my site. As I said before the staff section definitely needs an update and tidy up!

Ok - the Oli Frey thing - I might be wrong so I won`t go there, I was just wondering if anyone else had heard anything as it seems to be just me I must be wrong!

Regarding staff.........I was flicking thru the old Zzap`s the other day and I was wondering if anyone could remember the old section called " Shadow Spiel " bit of a gossip page and it was quite good.....anyway........I am SURE all of you who remember that time remember a girl they always used to go on about and put pictures of her on there - she was called Claire Hirsch from Activision and even looking back to the old issues from 1986 ( God, 17 years ago now! ) she is still quite a fox, I used to think she was a fox back in '86 when I was 10! The last sighting of her in Zzap was in 1987, issue 31 on a paintball day out - man she was FIT!

And there is more.......whilst looking back on that issue 31 where they went paintballing, on one of the pics it shows the then editor of Zzap ( Ciaran Brennan ) snogging Glenys Powell - nothing wrong there, but then Julian Rignall shacked up with her did`nt he? By a strange coincidence, Ciaran left the very next issue of Zzap - was there a love triangle going on at Zzap Towers??? Had Jazza shacked up with Glenys inbetween - what a player!

Post subject:  'Zzap! Where Are They Now?' - Where Are They Now?

It's weird how you guys brought up the 'Where Are They Now' thing, it was only a couple of days ago that I decided to put my old site back online :o .

I was going to update it and put it back up as a stand alone thing, but this whole 'consolidation' thing sounds like a good idea too.

For anyone who's still wondering what happened, here's the story: In late 2001 I went on a camping holiday for three weeks, came back to find that my website had been wiped. No worries, I had a copy on my hard drive. I fire up my computer, black screen. Turns out my hard drive is toast. No worries, I'll go to the copy I have backed up on CD. I check the CD. Old copy, most interviews are missing. Maff rages inwardly.

At this point Biggest Jim leapt in and sent me a copy of the site that he leeched off the net before it went down. I still owe you for that, man! What Jim sent me was incomplete, but between it and what I had on my CD pretty much everything was there.

I decided to redesign and rewrite the thing in PHP, then put it back up, but when I started doing it, I lost interest fairly quickly. This was around the time that Lee and Gordon started doing their interview sites, so I thought 'sod it, it's redundant anyway' and abandoned it.

But looking back through it, there was some pretty cool stuff there, so now I've decided to finish the PHP rewrite and put it up somewhere.

So there we go. It'll probably take me a week or two to get it all together in presentable form, so I'll post some links then.

As for merging all the sites together and making them part of Iain's site... sounds like it might be a plan.

Hi Maff

You're right: you had some great stuff there, and much more comprehensive than anywhere else on the web; it was a sad day when it went down.

I look forward to the new link -- if you want to email me with it when you have it, I'll stick it on my Zzap!Links page... Well, I'll be back here again in any case, so no worries. :)

Me still very proud!
It just goes to show that leeching has it's value!
Happy leeching y'all! :D

Anyway, I seem to have some other cool interviews 'leeched' from a German site (in English) with Julian Rignall, "Paul Sumner" & Gordon Houghton (whoever that is) I cannot find the site anymore, is it offline?

Salut!
Rob

It sounds exactly like the site run by Mark Macrae (which I can't seem to find on the web anymore -- might just be my ISP, though): the link was http://www.mark-macrae.co.uk/persons.htm -- and as you say, it featured interviews with me, Jaz and Paul Sumner (Dominic Handy). It looks like the German site might have "borrowed" those interviews. :)

Right!
Maybe we could 'borrow' them too?
Or did you also 'borrow' them on the burrow?
