Need Help with Wireless Internet Connection from a Laptop

Hi All ! 
I recently bought an SMC Wireless Router, which works well via the RJ45 connection, but doesn't work via wireless for the Laptop. It is as if Internet Explorer fails to recognise the Connection to the Wireless Router, even if the Connection is Excellent and Secured. I have tried to check the setting on the router, they seem ok !
Can anyone help ?
Edit: The problem has now been resolved ! I turned off all the security features and then slowly turned one on at a time, afterwhich everything worked !
