Drive 8 drive 9

Post by fraze »

Hello,

does anyone happen to know the command to assign a second 1541 to drive 9 so you can run 2 drives? I believe there is a commoand you can type that will assign one as 8 and one as 9 so you can do disk to disk and run multi disk games etc?

Thanks!

Assuming you're talking about a 1541 disk drive, the easiest way was to open up the bottom of the drive and move one of the jumper switches.

By default all should be closed, so flicking jumper 1 should change the device number to 9.

You could do this also with a print command to the drive, although I think you'd need to do this each time you turned the drive on.

I'm sure there's probably a scanned copy of the drive manual out there somewhere!

Hope this helps.

On the newer 1541's (1541-II I think they were called). The jumper switches were on the back of the drive, so nothing needs to be opened up.

As said above, any software methods would need to be done every time the computer / drives were switched on or off.
