Your best bet is a CMD FD2000, which can also read/write PC 3.5" disks with Big Blue Reader.

Next best option is a 1581, which is compatible with a lot more software and is easier to use.

You got quite a bargin there! Were the games originals or just copies?

Regarding the 3.5 drive's, you'll have to pay a LOT more to get your hands on them

You can use an X cable to attach your 1541 drive to the PC. The most common is the standard X1541, but better models like the XA1541 would be better.

There are two different programs - Star Commander, which works in DOS but not reliably in Windows, and the new cbm4win which comes with a nice GUI (graphical user interface) add-on.

So if you have an older PC lying around, Star Commander is the best bet. You could also investigate www.c64hdd.com which has another way of doing things.

did see a 1581 on ebay a few weeks back i think in went for around 50-60 pounds but ive seen the 1541 mk2 boxed go for 20-40 pound i used the the 1541 for years i seemed a good drive .smaller them the mk1 and not as heavy .but its up to you

Worry got confused. I have now worked out that:

C64 1 : was when you told us you won an eBay auction.

C64 2: is when above c64 was delivered to you!

It has all become clear now! I really shouldn't have 4 hour "power" naps in the early evening, I'm still zombifed at the mo x-)

tip: only buy of ebay when you know you can at least break even when reselling goods (like me). there's money in retro antiques.

That's funny, because they used to cost £35 didn't they? Which was a fair whack of money back then too, well worth it though!
