Issue 108 - But what are we actually going to review?

Post by Lloyd Mangram »

Indeed,
is there anything reasonable to review or are we going RETRO all the way?
So I read something about 'newcomer' and that 'doom' clone, but is there anything else around at the moment?

Btw, what about an article comparing original arcade games to their c64 conversions, and comment on their reviews?
(enduro racer, outrun, quartet, wonderboy, etc --oops--those are all particularly nastie ones)

Uhm, I always start thinking after typing in stuff (noticed?) so maybe it's not so *hot*. It's a sort of Zzap!back on arcade conversions.
Well, the first question still stands...

Newcomer, Metal Warrior IV, and anything else half-decent that's appeared since z107. Maybe one of Bayliss's games will be suitable. The arcade thing was done to death in the last Commodore Force's so I'm not sure we should go down that route...

I'd say also games released before z107 but never reviewed.
AFAIK Trenz's Enforcer, Lions of the Universe, Ikkiuchi... Also It's Magic 2
My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Delta, 3.Creatures 2, 4.Armalyte, 5.Bubble Bobble, 6.Uridium, 7.Ikari Warriors, 8.Bionic Commando, 9.Buggy Boy, 10.Archon.

I quite like the idea on the conversion, what worked, what not - what was sacrificed and how the games played. Yes that'd be interesting, stuff like Bomb Jack, Up n' Down, Tapper etc.

that's really a nice idea rob, there's plenty good and bad coversions out there worth being mentioned. green beret, double dragon, new zealand story, operation wolf etc etc...

Was that type of article not done in one of Commodore Force's roundup-roundups of games though?

That was my point. As I said, this sort of thing has been done to death in Zzap!64. I reckon we should be looking for things that have not been done before.

well then perhaps something about the c64 scene then? (coders, graphicians, crackers (!) musicians, cool storys, celebrity sceners, how it all started, famous cracking and demo groups, discmagazines, parties & events, etc etc...)
I'm sure (the modern) Zzap!64 isn't only about gaming is it? 8)

Oh dear! What did I start?:D
I only wanted to know if there was something interesting to review at all.

About the arcade conversion thing, if it's been done, we shouldn't do it again, that's for sure.
Personally I don't know the commodore force issues very well, since I didn't (and do not) consider them being zzap. 8)

But thanx anyway for the enthusiasm!

Btw, if anyone has (new) ideas for Zzap!64 issue 108, check out & post the 'official' thread. (I know this is my fault, It happens quite a lot that I'm off topic) :)

I'm sure this is mentioned else where but with Solar Jetman turning up on the C64 how about a BIG review of that?

Smash Designs are working on Turrican III... They say will be released this year :D (crosses fingers....)

Protovision Hockey Mania

Maybe Metal Dust will be ready soon enough to review?

Highly doubt Enforcer II will be, but would like to see review of Enforcer

Does someone on the review team have access to SCPU in order to review Metal Dust when it is released? :?:
