25TH ANNIVERSARY LUDLOW TRIP

Thought I would start a separate thread and gather some ideas/feedback on this...

April next year marks twenty five years since the launch of ZZAP!

It would be great to mark the occassion with a ZZAP!-themed event of some sort in the place it all started - Ludlow. But what form should that take? A few of us meeting in a pub for drinks, or a more organised affair? Trips around the sites of Ludlow and a formal "event" in a hotel/conference room? Somebody dressed up as the Scorelord running an anniversary challenge gaming event to test the old staff's prowess?

An organised affair has it appeals but would take time and money to organise and who knows if anybody would turn up.

I'd be more inclined to go for a handful of us just go to Ludlow for a weekend and have a few pints in the old watering holes, visit the "sites" and maybe annoy Roger for a coffee or something :)

Outrageous! The wiki entry for Ludlow has no mention of Zzap! at all!

Seems like all the notable events/people in Ludlow were hundreds of years ago.

With all respect, I'd hate to visit Ludlow with a whole bunch of nerds. No really.

Unless it was someone who'd be truly organizing it with enough weight (not literally, Gordon) to get all the boys in, and I mean including the Jazzes and all the Gazzes of this world. But it's a nerd's dream, and it won't come true, believe me. (Btw, I include myself with the nerds, although I'm only a Zzap afficionado actually - but that's quite nerdish I'm afraid)

Since the DEF Tribute I really liked the idea of visiting Ludlow with the likes of Craig, Iain and/or Mort, people who to me, made the difference in the 'digital age' of Zzap. Check out Old St, check out King St. Saying hello to Roger & Oli, that sort of thing.
If it could happen, and I could make it around april 2010 that would be cool - with any of these guys around.

But I don't wanna end up in a room with sweaty, drunk and swearing folks (this seems to be a UK thing?) from the RG forum, or any other 'retro kind of forum' around, come to think of it, fantasizing about the fact they ever had a Zzap or Crash in their hands somewhere back in the eighties. And I certainly don't want to disturb Roger with a bunch of 30/40 somethings like that. The Scorelord forbid.

I'm afraid I'm a bit honest at the moment, maybe hard to stomach for some fanboys, but this is my NSHO. Btw, no offence to the professor who started this thread, he's a sincerley nice guy with Zzap roots.

Everybody, do what you wanna do - of course- just don't count me in.
Iain, contact me if you have a cunning plan.

No offence taken. You clog-wearing dyke-fingerer ;)

Part of the reason for starting the thread now was to try and make sure it DID happen in time.

I'm quite happy with the idea of a few of us turning up for drinks in the old ZZAP haunts, with as many of the staff as we can get there. Sort of, turn up during the day (Saturday), wander round town in the afternoon, drinks, meal, drinks. Sunday disperse back to our nerd lairs.

As I said to Rob in a PM. I'm more interested in the few beers while wandering around Ludlow type of thing, rather than some organised event.

I can't see many ex Zzap people joining us though to be honest, especially if there's more than a couple of "fanboys" around :)

Was in The Bull a couple of months back, it really was a poor shadow of the place it used to be in my youth.

Now that I think about it, I agree that meeting Jaz/Gaz would be a highlight of any retro gathering for me. Every word they wrote in the 80's seemed mega-important (well, it was if games/64 were your hobby.) And they had a well wicked sense of humour that had me in stitches, so if they are half as funny as they were back then it would sure be a fun meeting.

Anyhoo, I'm planning on emigrating to Dubai in the coming year so I don't think I'll make the trip just for an anniversary.
However, Ludlow is not too far from me so I may just make a personal daytrip to Zzap! Towers before I leave.
