Issue 108 - Issue 108 is Indefinitely on Hold

There has been some discussion about this on other areas of the board but I'll say it here again.

The outline of what was going to be in issue 108 was created and a little work done on it, but enthusiasm for the project was starting to wane amongst the ring leaders of it and also due to their real-life work commitments, it was decided to put the project on the backburner.

There are no plans to resurrect it any time soon, but of course other people could take it over but as the main players of issue 107 know, it takes an awful lot of work.

Until then, we have Mr. Zzapback's Def Tribute to Zzap!64 to look forward
to!

I have now locked the issue 108 forum as well. Any further discussions can be made in the "General" forum etc.

Well, Rob has asked me to unlock this forum, so maybe he has some plans to tackle issue 108 after his great success on the Def Tribute issue...? :)

Uh, why ask for it to be unlocked? Very strange.

The plot would seem to thicken! :)

Hello Rob?!! why did you want me to unlock the 108 forum??

Hullo! :)
Well, there were a couple of interested topics and stuff over here, and there was no possibility to respond to them.

And, I think, that 108 will be going to happen somewhere in the future (probably) and it would be good to keep discussing it, instead of having a closed thread about it? What's so strange about that?

I thought it was strange to lock it, the DEF Tribute was never meant to be a replacement issue. So let's continue to talk about it so every now and then. AT least to be able to post something about when needed?

The thing for me is, I now think that 108 is even less relevant. 107 was a great way to close Zzap!, but the tribute really was a cracking "full stop" (and it was printed, too, so everyone could get a copy). For me, 108 would almost certainly end up being a step back, or, at best, a repeat. Of course, I might think differently in a year or so.

Why did I feel the cold finger of dread when I saw this thread was unlocked?

It's the flu, mate. :)

I think I've got it, too. For some reason, whenever I see the number 108 I break out into a sweat and start slobbering. I'm not sure I could face another Zzap! issue at the minute.

I see your point.
I had exactly the same feeling.
But I didn't/don't want to sound too arrogant, like saying:" the DEF Tribute was DEF and that's it."
It's just that effort-wise it would be an enormous step to outdo the DEF Tribute, and it's not because I did it, but because it was such an awful lot of work.
I think anyone would have a hard time to get others ('old' or new people) involved as enthusiastically as everybody did, I still don't understand how I pulled it off myself, I mean organizing it etc. Of course Craig's support was enormous, especially during the last 2 months(!) of the whole process.

Still, I have visions of an interview with Jaz, Roger Bennett, Oli (who knows?) and a couple of others, mix it with a couple of classic reviews/zzapbacks, a feature or two and you already have a nice follow up to the DEF Tribute.
Issue 108, like reviewing new C64 software in Zzap! stylee is not my cup of tea, although I would support it, some way or another. I'd rather 'set up' an original mag with Zzap! touches instead.
Thing is I can't afford a project like it again, unless it's work, and I get paid for it actually. So, I guess it will never happen again. The DEF Tribute was truly one of a kind.
108? Maybe Craig's right, over a year or so, or 2010 - 25 years of Zzap!

If earth's still the same. 8)

Well, once Kill! Kill! Gaming finally gets going, it'll have that feeling of the old-skool mags.

What's the news on that?
