I'd just like to add my own congratulations and thanks to everyone involved in making the tribute. Buying a new issue of Zzap was just pure nostalgic exhilaration! And the magazine itself is just so well made, the typefaces, the look & feel... perfect.

I only found out about it 2 days before it was due in the shops... it's fate!

Thanks again guys, this is beautiful.

Finally got my copy of RG with the Zzap! special after braving a hot Saturday in Loughborough just to get to a WHSmiths. Definitely worth it and a throughly enjoyable read. You're right; why can't there be a modern games mag with the same spirit, nowadays.

Amazing that Chris A responded. You should have tried to sting him for a few thousand to set up your own games mag empire! Funny thing was that I went for an interview as a writer at PCG when Chris was Editor. I didn't get the job (wrote a terrible review of Forbidden Forest), it went to Bob Wade! I could of had Future millions!

Really great read. I always rated Hunter's Moon.

Looks like someone is having a moan about non-Newsfield people (ie us!) reviewing games, over at retro gamer's forum.

He obviously didn't read my first answer clearly, which explained why we are reviewing the games, then tries to backtrack in his next comment!

Yeah, well, there'll always be some who don't like things like the DEF Tribute (it's not like 100 per cent of the feedback to #107 was positive).

It just seems that he is either jealous or looking down on the supplement with the arrogance of 'Well it's not ZZAP!'. Calling it 'self indulgent' is a bit puzzling. Also complaining that Chris Anderson plugged his website in the interview is a little strange.

As I said, it's like he is nit picking more than offering genuine criticisms.

I think he probably had a couple of concepts which sounded really good when he was constructing them in his head, but he should have abandoned them before he pressed the Submit button. "Self-indulgent" is an easy criticism to throw at anyone or anything at any time, so it doesn't really mean anything, and then he tried to defend it by sidestepping the argument, which was a bit silly. And I was amazed Rob got Chris Anderson to respond at all -- kudos to our zany 'n' wacky Dutch friend for that one, I say.

Quite surprised at you guy's "considered" response.. if I'd spent that long producing something of that quality, and then got RG to produce it, then I would probably have been somewhat more "colourful" in my response!

At the end of the day, for RG readers, it's a "freebie"*; not sure how you can moan at something for nothing - although many of us are experts at it - as a retail manager I was continually amazed at the brazen cheek of customers moaning about freebies, offers etc..

I can't be more effusive with my praise, roll on 108...

* apart from that one on eBay of course...

Thanx for all the support and feedback guys.
But I wouldn't jump on top of everyone criticizing (oh dear without Craig I cannot spell  ) our beloved DEF Tribute project. 8)
Let it be, like Sir Paul sang, hehe.

Just won another 30+ editions of Look and Learn magazines btw, crammed with Oli stuff hopefully. A guy from Abingdon btw, maybe your neighbour Gordon?

Anyway, I'm not here, I'm doing something useful. :)

Well he is entitled to his opinion - But the points he raised were petty, in my opinion (about no Jaz and Chris' website) and calling it self-indulgent. However he seems to be in the minority - even Speccy owners seem to like it!

Anyway I think enough was said - I could have probably pulled his words further apart, but a) there are moderators b) as Rob said, don't get too heavy.

I just pulled out the original Wizball review to compare it to the 're-styled' one... blimey... i never realised how blurry the old screen shots were! I guess the new ones were screen grabbed from an emulator. But I would be interested to know how the original ones were done... was anyone involved in it? Who was the photographer? Would love to know what camera was used... what was it, an Olympus OM10 on a tripod 6 inches from the TV screen with the game on pause? (and what did you do if there was no pause? oh, I see, that explains the really really blurry screen shots...) :)

Some of the stuff you ask for can be found in that EDGE interview with the Zzap! boys, I have a pdf of that article over hereon my site.

For the really technical bits, I have no clue.
Let's hope Cameron Pound logs in one day.
