Yep - drawn by Oli Frey. (Though whether we actually had the rights to replicate these copyrighted characters, I've no idea. Things were a lot simpler back then. Dealing with games publishers these days is like dealing with film companies or prima donna rock stars... )

And by Gary Penn at a certain point, IIRC.

I think you'll find the designer, Markie Kendrick, drew them. He did it by doodling directly onto the acetates when they were briefly brought back late in the day, and I presume he originally drew them onto the paper layouts in the scalpel-and-Pritt days.

Well, later on, maybe. (Rockford and Thingie dissapeared after issue ???)

But it's a fact that Oliver Frey did the original doodles and Penn took over on and off.

I brought 'm back in the DEF Tribute over 40 of 'm! (Original Oli ones though, those were better drawn!)

That woulda been a clever trick, since he didn't work for Newsfield in 1985!

Mark drew them from when Gordon brought them back, circa issue 39.

The one I always remember is from the review of Death or Glory.

Rockford is walking past and mumbles, " Death "

Superb

Wasn't it just called "The Nose"? I'm sure Gordo will be able to elaborate.

I really missed rockford and co when they stopped using them. In fact, this led me to writing to Zzap after creating 3 new characters to replace them - (which of course were never used!) Their names were (wait for it!) Sprite, Pixel and Bug. lol..Oh dear.
