They are Quite Annoying, but if they help the site then fair enough. I'm certainly not annoyed enough to complain about them if they're serving a purpose. Just a necessary evil, is all. :)

Hi Iain, hi folks,
I voted 'very annoying', but like I said in the other thread:
they shouldn't been given up if it means a substancial (read: financial)
sacrifice. If it's only a marginal advantage I'd (personally) get rid of them though!
If it was my site, I'd rather cut on bandwidth*/hosting costs than spoil some of the fun while browsing through the site, but that's, of course, only my opinion. 8)

Above all, respect and a big Thank You to Iain for his excellent site and board, whatever he decides to do. :)
Ta!
Rob

Have to agree - I'd rather be realistic and spend a few moments' annoyed by the ads, than watch the site disappear due to excessive costs.

Well there was a time a couple of years ago, with the colapse of the Internet advertising market when I was only getting about $2 or $3 a month from the ads and I was close to getting rid of them but now I get approx $8-$10 a month from them and that pays for approx 60% of the hosting of zzap64.co.uk but there's also the slightly cheaper cost of hosting my other site (www.theyfuckyouatthedrivethru.com) where I have a lot of scans as well.

I get a cut out of the DVD sales so that adds a bit to the bottom line as well and I get about £1-£2 a month through Amazon so it all adds up and probably pays a good bit of the hosting costs but not all :( And being a poor student I need all the extra income I can get to help pay for it :)

Fair enough :)

(Or fairy-nough, as Rob H nightmarishly wrote in the c64 Rodland review).

Has anybody else been getting a massive pop up for 888 casino when they enter this forum?

I have! and I can't find it in my ad control panel thingy to deselect it! Must look further. Annoying for me, can only imagine how annoying it is for others... :(

I deselected options to display anything that is a pop up ad or appears like a pop up ad, so that should stop it and all other pop up style ads.

None here.

I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.6 with the Adblock Plus plugin. Is that different to everyone else?

IE7 here, but the Google adblocker lets popups through on this site (so I can see when I get a private message)

Not had popups twice today

I just got another one while clicking on this topic! Ironic huh?

Some advertising is doing dodgy stuff and displaying a popup even although I have explicitly said I don't want ANY on the site. Must do more research.

Are other people seeing lots of those white teeth and diet crap ads on this site?

Quite annoying and silly they are. Must try to switch them off and just have more Zzap related "ads" displaying or something...
