Anyone want to hazard a guess what was the last C64 commercial game released by a major software house in the UK. I mean an original game not a budget rerelease.

I'm suspecting it was around 1994. :?:

Was it Lemmings?

That must have been right at the end of the C64's life

It's either Lemmings or Alien 3. Both them and Mayhem in Monsterland I acquired around September and October 1993.

Maybe Monster in Mayhem Land. Off now on my long planned journey to the bit of Zzap - Yeovil.

Technically speaking Mayhem was an independent/homebrew release as the Rowlands released it mail order through their own label.

I was just playing Lemmings on my 1541u2 last night. Such a shame that it was released so late that it wasn't as successful as it deserved to be. One of the greatest C64 conversions of all time.

Must be worth quite a bit on ebay now.

Actually, surprisingly not. It must have sold fairly well, because it turns up quite regularly.

I remember seeing a load of them for sale for £3 back in maybe 1995 in an Electronics Boutique (I think). I got one of them, loading errors, got it replaced, still wouldn't load. Didn't bother bringing it back and just got it from the Internet at some stage later.

So I guess they were dumped on the market place and thus not that rare. I wonder if any in that bin / basket worked though? ;-)

Probably not! You would have had more luck loading the basket...

Looking back, you can see why shops loved console games so much, apart from the (I'm sure) much better profit margins, there also must have been a hell of a lot less returns than tape media and no kids blanking out a bit of the tape and saying it didn't work and swapping it for another game, while you "backed" up the original. Yes Graham, I'm looking at you! ;-)
