You can now pre-order your copy of "The Commodore 64 Book 1982 - 19xx" from the website at:

http://c64goldenyears.com

This is the follow-up to Andrew Rollings' ZX Spectrum Book that was released at the end of 2006. You can find out more about that title at http://zxgoldenyears.com

Author Andrew Fisher, who has written for magazines including Commodore Force, Commodore Format and Retro Gamer, will be covering over 200 classic (and not so classic) Commodore titles, with fascinating trivia about the machine, the programmers and companies and the games themselves.

Note that the book will have a limited print run, and pre-ordering will help guarantee the book goes to print.

Ordered my copy Andrew, good stuff, got the Spectrum book which was excellent and this would be a more than good companion.

Looking forward to it already :D

Sounds exciting!

Are there any sneak previews available?

Do up a 468x40 pixel banner for the book and I'll display it on the site!

How many pre orders do you need?

p.s. I'm just about to pre order as well. You've been part of the scene for quite a while so I think you can be trusted! :)

One question.

The P&P for £7.50. Does that cover worldwide or Europe or what?

Thanks for your support guys! (The ZZAP DVD and website are proving VERY helpful with the research, obviously!)

As for the P&P, they will be mailed out from the USA so that rate covers postage worldwide.

EDIT:

We're working on a banner, so I'll pass that on as soon as it's done.
And we're looking at 300 pre-orders to guarantee printing.

Well I've put in my pre-order!

Might I suggest you put in the info about the P&P on the site and a sample page or two would really encourage people to pre-order I think.

The more info you have on the site, the better IMHO.

I'm considering purchasing the book although I have to say I'm still unsure about the content. I'd like to know more about the games included from a historical perspective (impact on gaming, units sold, general trivia) but it seems as if most of the text is just a retread of the inlay card (particularly in view of the McGuigan screenshot) and a one-line opinion to end.

Let me know if I'm wrong :D

Actually, sod it - I'm buying it anyway.

Each game review is split into three sections:

1. Opinion - this is where I talk about the C64 version (particularly if it's a conversion), the graphics and sound, the control.

2. Trivia - each game will have a piece of trivia about the game, the company, the programmer, and other interesting little facts

3. Summary - a description of the actual game itself, which is more than just a repeat of what it says on the inlay

You can see the two test pages on the links in Rich's post, and hopefully there will be more up soon.

Iain - agreed, we're still getting the page sorted out, and the plan is to have an author diary on there to let people know how it's progressing.

Any updates on the book or amount of pre-orders still needed?

Still waiting for the banner to give you guys some free advertising as well... :)

We're up to 80 pre-orders already, which is excellent. Need roughly 300 to cover all the cost of printing.

Will sort out the banner as soon as I can...

Iain, one (temporary) banner, to link to http://c64goldenyears.com

Would appreciate it if you could upload a copy to your webspace rather than linking from mine...

You don't have that in a 468x60 size do you? Would be easier to slot into my ad system if so.

You just did a straight resize of that didn't you? ;-) It looks a bit blurry but I'll add it to the site within the next couple of days, which reminds me, I have another Mort DVD to put up as well!

Banner has been added. it should start to show up in the banner rotation in around 15 minutes. I've given it a good high rotation rate so let's hope you get lots of clicks! :)
