Site Twitter Account

Post by Iain »

I decided to try out this new fancy web thingy... Twitter!

Planning to use it for small site updates and general Zzap bits and pieces that don't warrant a full message.

Def Guide Twitter Page

At some stage I'll integrate the twitts (or whatever they are called!) into the website... somewhere...

A message is called a tweet

Repeating a message is called a retweet

Obsessing over Twitter makes you a TWIT ;)

Ta for that!

While you are at it. What does the @ before a person's name mean? I assume it's when you are addressing a message directly to that person?

[edit]

How do you have a conversion in Twitter? If somebody is following me can they reply to my tweets (see learning already! :-D ) or do I also have to be following them?

[end of edit]
I used to be on the bleeding edge of the web back in 1994, now I'm chasing the tail! ;-)

Welcome to the 21st Century!

I'd don't use it personally but have a Twitter page for my school website I do. Useful for announcements and the like, along with a Facebook page.

Yeah. It seems like it's useful for micro announcements and the like.

Iain:

@replies are public replies to someone, which will show in the @ section of whatever Twitter client they're using. Private replies are referred to as direct messages, and they're only possible when both parties are following each other.

Regarding conversations, you just @reply each other, and click back through the links. If you've got a decent Twitter client, it will compile the thread into an IM-style string. (Tweetie for Mac and iPhone does this, for example.)

Thanks for that. I must look at integrating it into the header of the forum here, although am planning to upgrade to phpBB3 at some stage as well.. but I'm guessing it'll be a while before I get around to that ;-)

I saw Phil King, Paul GLancey and others as well. You could get the whole Zzap-crew together through Twitter.
Funny thing eh?

And I'll give you a few hints for a nice Zzap-stylee twitter theme...soonish/later.

Woops, uh-oh. Sorry.

Anyway, off to creating something sort of smashing for the Zzap Twitter canal.

Feel free to do a redesign of this site while you are at it! :)

Hehe. Too funny. ;)

Look here

You can get my pass and everything so you can use it as your own.
Or you can copy the background and login picture (if you like) and tweak the design setting according to this, or your taste. Whatever you want.
If you have other ideas, hints or tips, just let me know.

Ta!

Emmm, I do like the idea of Lloyd fronting it. Might take you up on that offer and do a friendly takeover.

I prefer the idea of the ex Zzap staff being in a list rather than being followed though, since they aren't talking about Zzap. Maybe follow a couple of them, but not Chris :)

Wanna PM me the password then?

Would Lloyd be talking about SQL queries and the like though? ;-)

Lloyd would presumably still be wittering on about a Hermes typewriter all the time.

I've hacked together a latest tweet bit at the footer of the forum index page, to tide us over until I upgrade to phpBB3 at some stage.

I might add it into more pages within the forum, but it'll probably slow things down a bit, so front forum page might be enough...

p.s. Craig, don't look at the CSS, it's hacked embed style :(

p.p.s. Rob, still waiting for the PM with password for Lloyd's twitter account.
