Worst game you ever bought!

Post by vectrex »

There are lots of post talking about the best games of the time... but can you remember the worst game you ever bought.

Mine sticks in my mind so much I still remember it like it was last week. I had a tenner that was burning a hole in my pocket... I found two games that looked ok... it was a 50/50 gamble... and I choose.... poorly!

The game I got was Kokotoni Wilf by Elite... it was the worst piece of crap I had the misfortune of loading on my C64. I had a C64 right from the get go and remember some of the original games were very "basic" to say the least... the problem was... games had move on very quickly and looked and sounded very slick. Kokotoni Wilf was some dated piece of crap that should have been put out of its misery and never released!

I was gutted... to say the least... I dont think I ever took a gamble on a game after that!

Found this on youtube...

Now you can see why i was so gutted!

While there was quite a few before the days of buying Zzap, but the worst one has got to be Werner.

Just couldn't get anywhere in it at all, still can't. Least the graphics were quite good I guess... :( Such a waste of £10 to a kid with not much money!

I suppose a close second for me would be Dragons Lair... I loved the arcade game... so I just had to get the C64 conversion... The loading screen was great... and then everything went down hill from there! That bloody first level... trying to stay on that falling disk... then another almost pixel perfect jump at the end! It was just way too hard!

Still Dragon's Lair 2 was much better... so i forgive them (Software Projects) JUST!

Technically, the worst game in my collection that I bought is 'Dark Star' from Mastertronic (actually made by the Darlings of Codemasters fame).

I still can't help have a soft spot for it though...

Dark Star... yep i had that one... one of the early Mastertronics without a screen shot... I can't remember the game.... was it a vertical scroller and you basically had to choose the left and right forks correctly?

I remember Magic Carpet another early mastertronic... another nearly impossible game... I think it had 3 levels and I'm not sure I even got past the first!

I bought Intergalactic Cage Match.

That should be the end of this thread!

Close... I actually borrowed that from a class mate back in the day and regretted it immediately :P

Hmmm... bought... I've got some terrible games in my collection, but most of those I got sent for free as part of my Oracle reviewing days. I bought Comic Bakery for like a quid in the early 90s just for Galway's music, that's only one that immediately springs to mind.

After spending about 2 hours one day deciding what to spend my hard earned pocket money on I bought Galvan.

It was terrible but my friend loved it for some reason, so I guess it wasn't a total waste.

Pink Panther

I bought it back to the shop saying I purchased it as a birthday present for someone and they already had it. let me swap it for something else (cant remember what though?)

Also remember pulling the same trick with Ocean's Transformer's and getting Bounty Bob instead.
Fave Game: Thrust
Fave Music: Ocean Loader (original)
