I have no idea how I started working on Zzap!64 -Gary Liddon

Post by Iain »

An interview with Gary Liddon has been posted on You Tube by Alan Stewart - Mamemeister

It's almost an hour and a half long and I've only started watching it, but he starts talking about his magazine career around 3:45. Interesting stuff!

The subject line above is a quote from the interview:

"I have no idea how I started working on Zzap!64" - Gary Liddon

He was employed to work on Amtix but sort of switched over...

If you aren't interested in the more recent stuff when he starts talking about it, there are more Q & A's about the older days around the one hour point.

It really is a great interview, covers a lot of ground and has many questions asked by multiple people. A great thing to have coming up to the 30th birthday!

Something to listen to later... if I have the time tonight in between the FA Cup, tidying up, sorting some more items to sell, and food heh...
Another visitor... stay awhile... stay forever!

It is a long one and I didn't think I'd end up watching it in one go, but I did. :)

Hi MAMEMesiter, it would be interesting to see the stats for how many watched it all the way to the end, but I guess they might be skewed by people watching a bit and then coming back later to watch the rest etc.

I was also very interested to hear about the possibility of an interview with the other Gary. Keep us informed on that one!

Hi Iain

Gary has confirmed he's happy to do the interview, just waiting on him to confirm when is suitable.

Hopefully got Jeff Minter in the coming months too.

Just saw your post on Lemon 64, if you can be bothered then I'm certainly happy as I'm sure Gary would be for you to stick up a transcript.

At the end of the day for me it's all helping to bring traffic to my channel so it's a win/ win.

:-)

Great. Thanks for that. When I do get around to doing it, I can give you a copy if need be. I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew... ;-)

That's great. We now have video talks with all the core review gang. Although Sean Masterson and the White Wizard dealt mainly with strategy and adventure games it would be nice to have video of them too I guess. I would read their sections even though I had little interest in those genres.

Liddon seems to have lost some weight since those Zzap! days. Combined with the white hair and the black rimmed glasses he looks just like a young Woody Allen! Hope he doesn't find the comparision offensive.

Oh, and how can there be a Liddon interview without asking him about tea? :)

IIRC one of the questions was about his nickname, but neither Gary nor Mamemeister seemed to remember the "Techno Teaboy" one! :)

Yep, I had no idea what name the question was referring to. :-)

So I've seen from his FB posts. He seems to have more than his fair share of injures though! ;-)
