Paul Sumner (again)

Post by gordon »

Does anyone know if he appeared in the magazine during the period from 1990-91? (Issues 60-75, say). I seem to remember the masthead from that time featuring Stuart, Phil and Robin, then Lloyd Mangram, but no PS.

Was he still a 'reviewer' by then, or had he been dumped from the magazine?

Cheers
Gordon

AFAIK he appeared in Zzap until issue 40, later he went on to become editor at CRASH, and help out with other Newsfield mags...?
Not much of help anyway, I guess.

I'll send you something.

Well until I started this whole Zzap retor thing I had never heard of him and I started getting Zzap at issue 41, so I guess he wasn't in it after that at all.

But then again I can barely remember my name sometimes... x-)

...which would mean that I (or Jaz) got rid of him, and I can't remember that at all. :D

Oh dear. Another senior moment.

Lets get ths Paul Sumner thing straight............

As far as I was aware Paul Sumner was just a guest reviewer made up to put another head in the magazine and various people would write under his name. But who was the Paul Sumner who appeared in the Zzap challenge in issue 3? Was he really called Paul Sumner? What went on?

My head hurts

The first time I got really suspicious of the PS/DH sitiuation was when I was reading an issue of CRASH back in the day, and they had the PS reviewers head, only it had the DH initials on the body (I think it was a promotion for some event or other?).

I think nobody knew about it (obviously except Newsfield staff) until maybe 1999 when stuff started appearing on the web.
I remember a june 2000 interview with Dominic Handy, revealing everything. (I have it, but it's not online anymore...)

Yeah I guess.
With Paul, Julian and you (and Steve for a while) there was no 'need' to have a pseudo reviewer aboard, was it?
I guess Julian or maybe you (later on) told him he could sort of focus on CRASH from then on, or the other mags he wrote for appearantly. 8)
