Always a bad sign when the in-house staff are doing most or all of the work, sadly. If this does come to pass, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see more generic and fewer in-depth pieces in the mag.
From what I have heard, the in-house team (well, two people) are slaving away to the deadline and beyond, so it will be interesting to see how they cope with the extra (substantial) work.

Uh, you are kidding, right?
Nope - I have it on good authority that a few are waiting for money for several articles and one poor chap hasn't been paid at all for his work. I think it's probably time for them to get legal advice...

Considering the new cut backs, we were VERY lucky to get the Def Trib published when we did!! Any later and they probably wouldn't have done it.

However, I'd imagine the extra Tribute stuff is safe enough, since it'll cost them nothing and fill up 10 pages of the magazine without the 2 guys left having to do more work.

i hope their online store hasn't run into any problems too, although it's only been two weeks within their 28 day delivery period. i'm guessing/hoping that's unaffected

You probably will get whatever you ordered but don't be surprised if it is slightly late.

Hey Rob, are you still going to have the Tribute "overload" available on your website? I may be completely barmy but I'm sure you mentioned something like that may happen ...

I disagree. Think about it: Retro Gamer got about 60 pages of editorial written, designed and edited for NOTHING (well, apart from a few token bits and bobs thrown to Rob). Although printing isn't free, it's not terribly expensive when you're a major publisher -- it's the content that costs money. In the sparse sales months of the summer, I'm guessing Retro Gamer was very happy to get the Tribute, in the hope that this FREE content (for them) might cause a sales spike. And, as you say, I can't imagine the magazine would now ignore the extras, seeing as its publisher seems to be in financial trouble.

As for those contributors who haven't been paid, I guess they'll either have to press hard for their money or make a trip to the small claims court.

Didn't ask permission, but I thought nobody would mind being in RG with mugshot and all.
Btw, I was paid 'in natura' so, unfortunately, there's nothing to 'share'. 8)
Looking forward to see it in RG. :)
bah! Have I been edited out again? I did the review for Leaderboard. ;)

Yeah, yeah.
That was before RG was interested in the leftovers.
Now I've 'sold' them to LP, so there's not much left to make available on my site. All pdf's will be available later, of course.

I'm preparing a redesign of my site (PHP) so things will change somewhere in time.

Also busy with something else, I'll inform you all later.

After consultation with my 'source' I have decided to remove my original post about Live Publishing - it looks likely that some people will be paid after all!

Some? Well we've seen fuck all our end so far and they're ignoring most of our calls about it...

I think that is their major problem - They are not giving any answers - It's always 'Be Patient' - Obviously Live created a great mag with RG, however they aren't gonna have any contributors left to write the mag!

I must admit that it doesn't look very rosy for the company - Obviously Martyn is only allowed to say so much about what is going on, but surely the people above him can be honest?

Personally I wouldn't subscribe to the mag - I know their forums have been full of people saying they are going to support Live and take out a subscription, but if the company does go down, they won't get their money back. And it seems odd that the editorial last month was mostly devoted to a subscription plea...

I have always defended RG from the likes of Simon (aka RetroRevival) who seems to think that his fanzine was better 'cos it was more underground (his ranting just makes him look jealous). However I must admit that the more I hear about Live, I seem to be going off RG more and more...

One of the rumours is that Live don't have enough to pay the printers for the next issue - Obviously all eyes will be on next Thursday (or the start of next week when subscribers generally get their copies) to see whether it comes out.

I have a feeling that there will be some sort of announcement before then (though I'm not exactly sure about what) so we will have to wait for some kind of answer...
