HTML Features

Post by Iain »

I've just written a little bit of code to display features in web format.

Now all I have to do is start adding lots of features from the mag. OCRing is such a hassle though.

The first one online is an article about the TIB 3.5" drive in issue 79.

I haven't put the link up on the front page yet, but if you want a sneak preview...

p.s. The board has been dead over the past week, has everybody gone on holidays?

I was away for a week, and came back last Wednesday.
Will have to think of some new topics for threads! :D

:) Could be tricky though, there was some fault with the first batch sold, they were recalled I think? And then th company seemed to die. But as the company head's said in the feature, it was a couple of years too late...

Yup, only for a couple of days, though.

Nice feature btw.
Only, It's not that readable because the text is centered, and probably because of the background color too?
I'd rather see it as black text on a white background, and what about adding the original screenshots (not too big) in case if there were any.
Are we still going to do the html review thing?

I've changed it to left alligned.

Your comment on the text/background colour, perhaps white text would look better? Changing the text colour would also be reflected across the complete site.

As for screenshots/pictures, I'm not going to add any. A couple of years ago when I started added features, I spent hours trying to get the layout looking like the original and touching up the screenshots etc. With the scans online, there's no need for that, if you want to see the article in all its glory, view the scan :)

p.s. The feature will have a link to the scan (if it's available) soon.

As you have probably noticed, the features currently appearing as new on the front page of the site are actually ones that were already on the site, they are just new in the database.

I have to convert all the features and reviews on the site originally to database format so I can make the issue index pages dynamic.

It's a dirty job but someone has got to do it... 8-)

Well I'm back adding features to the site, old and new ones.

But can you give me some feedback about what you think of the look of my box outs with an image and descriptive text below it?

Image

Does it look any good?

You spelled Koronis Rift wrong ;)

Seriously, a bigger border/box might make the picture stand out more

True... you can also compare that picture to this one, twenty years on!

Regarding the spelling mistake, don't blame me, blame Alex from the old Zzap site, Briga.. - Zzap Online :)

As for the size, I know they're a bit small but if I made them better, they'd cross the white lines into another section, which looks kinda crappy.

Personally, I'd put some more padding around the text, rather than have it hug the boxout border.
