Stop the Russians!

Post by Iain »

I have added a Mod to the forum, which requires the typing in of a visual confirmation when registering (you know, the image of blurry letters that only humans can read) so if those Russians are using scripts to add new users with dodgy web site addresses, this should stop them.

It appears that over on my other website http://www.theyfuckyouatthedrivethru.com that the Russians are starting to login there too! :(

Well the visual confirmation didn't seem to stop them. So I have installed another Mod that requires people that are registering to select an option unique to this board, so that "should" stop most of the automatted spambots.

Fingers crossed anyway! ;-)

I've added another weapon to my arsenal to stop those damn Russian spammers. There was still the odd one getting though with a location of "rus". That's been banned as well now!! (Well as long as they don't actually read the forum and see this! :-D )

I don't know what you're using to block the SPAM but over on Lemon64 we use this little mod here...

It's smallish, simple and easy to implement around updates. It's proved effective as well!

I don't use that one, but I do have a anti spam mod installed. My own simply gets the user to select a radio button to say they aren't a bot!

Works very well, because only one spam bot seems to be able to register since and they should be taken care of now. :) It looks like I have won this round....

And Ian: Glad I could bring a little happiness into your day! :)

Just as well I changed the sign up to admin confirm, since over the past few days the forums has been hit a lot by spam bogs registering. I could add more unique stuff to the sign up but probably better off upgrading to phpBB3 and implementing the barriers in that...
