Hooray

Post by monkey010101 »

My parents have cleared the loft out and yesterday I got to see my collection of Zzaps for the first time in god knows how many years.
They're in terrible condition and I collected it a lot longer than I thought I did but I'm looking forward to having a peek through them.

Erm...just thought I'd share that.

Huzzah!!

I threw 'm all away back in the nineties.
Where I'd be without eBay and Iain & Mort?
Now I've got a complete set up to issue 50. (don't bother with almost anything next, actually)

Hurray again!
Once again I emerge from beneath a massive pile of paper which makes my desk groan to bring you the world’s most amazing posts.

The last Gordo-Maff-Kati issue! You must not be a great fan of Stu, Robin, Phil and the others, then... Personally, issue 74, with the dropping of Amiga coverage and of the changing reviewers' faces, and the ugly cartoonish look, was the turning point.

Well that was interesting. Amongst the Zzaps (I seemed to have more later issues than I remember ever getting) were some C and VGs, Commodore Formats (the first few issues) and the first few issues of The Games Machine. There were also a hell of a lot of Role Playing Games mags amogst which were the first 12 or issues of Newsfield's Gamesmaster magazine. I had completely forgotten about that one.

Anyone got any ideas of value on ebay?

Gamesmaster was (and indeed is) Future. Do you mean GMI (Games Master International), the short-lived title for dice-and-paper RPGs and wargames? I'd be surprised if that lasted 12 issues...

Yeah the RPG mag. I do have a vague memory of it only lasting about 12 issues as well. So maybe I have the entire run.

Games Master International!?
That's the only Newsfield mag (together with a design/mac title, err wotsitsname?) I never layed my hands on. I always wondered if it contained specific Oliver Frey material? (or only re-used imagery) I'd be very interested seeing scans of those mags. I'm pretty sure Mort is interested too. I'd say contact him!

Could you upload a photograph of the mags? (covershots or something)
Would be great!

No problem. I'll see what I can do. I should be able to take a photo this saturday and if I can take the mags to work should be able to do some scans. I'm no expert but the covers look like new Oliver Frey pics and not re-used ones for other mags.
oh and unlike my Zzaps these are in excellent condition.

Prepress? That was a trade magazine, so you won't have seen it on the shelves.

Other obscureish Newsfield titles include Fear, Frighteners and LM.

I remember LM and I spotted a couple of issues of Fear amongst the loft stuff.

Just moved house and unpacked my ZZAP collection...

GMI used a mixture of old and new Oli artwork, like the knights fighting (you know, the one that used to get "reversed" so the knight was swinging his morning star left-handed ;) )

Right, PrePress indeed! I never saw it in real life form.
I had a couple of Fear/Frighteners (dumped them, I'm not into the horror thing, I was just checking out for rare Oli material for the DEF tribute, and I own almost ALL LM's. ;)

I have photographed the covers to issues 1 to 15 of Gamesmaster International. Where's the best place to put them or send them to?

A lot of the covers weren't Oli frey's work but were taken from the games covered in the mag.
