This is a blast from the past. I was reading my Zzap an article on games piracy by Gazza, who comdemed it of course, well a few weeks later my friend and I went to the 9th Commodore show in London. I met Gazza Penn who had this suspicious looking carrier bag by his side. Well my mate who was a bit of a Kleptomaniac decided to have a look in the bag and rob its contents!! Well he managed to grab a few disks out of the bag and to our amazement they were all pirate copies (complete with hacker intros! well indeed!

We went on to meet Jeff Minter (still got the picture!) who had about 5 watches on one arm for some reason, whom I gave a light for his fag, he just stopped me as I walked by and said "scuse me mate, you got a light??" well I was so taken aback. But it made a good picture - even thought it was taken on one of those crappy disc cameras!

I went on to purchase (no rob!) my first modem too a 300/300 or 1200/75 commodore modem complete with a years subscription to cnet!! I had some MASSIVE phone bills due to that thing! ahh the cnet demo! who remembers that one

I remember the old shows! The one thing I liked is you could meet all the ZZap lads, get signed issues (issue 16 of mine is signed by Julian Rignall). Loads of freebies (posters, games and many a badge). And leaving with half a wardrobe full of software for about 50 :-)

Oh they were the days

Yes all those carrier bags full of goodies or crap depending on how you looked at it. A chance to meet the stars! well geeks that we admired. And it was so so busy. Been to a computer show recently and its not the same anymore. Lots of semi naked women and big buck stands!! bring back the old days when life was simple!! well maybe not!?

Hey, I remember that! Actually I managed to complete the demo on my second attempt or something like that. Nice guys... shame they didn't make it to BIT London...

Yeah! I loved those fairs.
I've still got a signed Frey poster for a Thalamus game. Cool!

Most of the kids (including myself) would wander around the shows with those bleeding paper caps on our heads that were totally useless...

My fondest memory was going on my usual hunt for freebies, when I came across the Commodore User stand. They had some free demo tapes and I went to pick some up. The guy stopped me in front of quite a few people and said, 'You can have them as long as you answer one question', I of course said fine. He then asked me, 'What's the greatest Commodore magazine?' I of course answered 'Zzap', grabbed my tapes and ran. Oh how I chuckled...
