Just like to say what wonderful time I had when I visited ZZap Towers for the Kick Off challenge back in May 1990 with Phil King, who was a top geezer. I was only 13 at the time and apparantly one of the youngest ever Zzap challengers. Although I lost I came away like a winner, binders, t-shirts, games and even issue 23 of Zzap which I was missing for the complete collection. It was a top day out.The sad fact is that not only have I met 1 Zzap member, but also went on holiday with one! Honest! I won the C&VG & Gremlin Graphics competition to Florida in October 1988. It was a competition held joinlty between the two ( you had to buy the rather crap Micky Mouse game to enter if I remember correctly ) cut a long story short - I won and went to sunny Florida with Jazza Rignall and his intended ( and also ex Zzaper Glynnis ) also a top geezer. When I found out I had won the competition and told my friends, none of them believed me - I mentioned it to Jazza who had phoned me several times before the holiday, and he arranged a letter to be sent for the attentional of all my mates who would not believe I had won the competion ( I still have the letter today ) it was in the sytle of, " It has been decreed that a competition has been won by....." very funny and very nice of him. Jazza was a top geezer and although I was young at the time, proberly a right annoying little shit, he was the bees knees, making me feel welcome. I think some pics were published in C&VG in the Feb 1989 issue from the top of my head ( can`t be arsed digging it out ) So that is my amazing sad fact - meeting 2 members of Zzap - both of whom were TOP guys. As a 25yr old fella who still has his 64 along with 350+ original games ( and still collecting the one`s I don`t have, but want at car boot sales )just to say a big thank you again to those 2 guys for making a little kid happy

Nice Story, I only met Jazza at the PCW show in 87. He was a nice bloke though. Shame about having to buy Mickey Mouse though to go to Florida :-) |

None of the sodding "whistle blowing in the middle of the penalty" horrow recollections eh? I'd have been sorely pissed if I'd been in your position at the time heh :)I've had the pleasure of meeting quite a number of Zzap!64 personages over the years at shows and stuff. All were great people to meet. And look out for Zzap!64 issue #107 as I'm part of that too... |

Yeah! You are right - that bloody bug in the first kick off game where the final whistle would blow when your just about to take a penalty! BASTARD!! That happened to me about 3 times in the challenge, GUTTED! And you are right about that Neighbours thing - it was on in the background as we were playing - they wrote down how it was on in the background in the write up. Bloody memories....why can`t it be like that again..... |
