I've FINALLY got my hands on the Edge mag that contains Andy Haywood's excellent letter plugging Zzap!107. Very cool ... and the mag isn't bad either (in fact I thought it was bloody brilliant. I'm getting really sick of some of juvenile trash that passes for computer games journalism in Australia ... Gaz, I am NOT referring to you, for everything that springs from your inner bits is good stuff.)

Well, that was an unexpected rant!

Damnit, I was going to post this same rant a week ago when I got my copy :)

Thanks to Andy, of course, for getting his letter printed. One step closer to having my words appear in my second fave mag of all time...see http://www.gazunta.com/000906_b.htm for my other attempt :)

Ant, can't agree more with the state of games 'journalism' in this country. No offense taken :) Hell, I've had to write some childish, error-addled BS in my time for pretty much every place you can imagine in this damnable country...Half the big shot writers in the field are so disinterested in games and only see it as a way to either get into something else or as a cool way to fund their speed habit...ghost-writing hacks who never get paid...kids taken off the street, thrown into a warehouse and told to copy websites without getting caught...

But there are honestly some intelligently written Australian gaming mags among the piles of dung, and you'll see the first issue on shelves in a month or so ;)

The situation's the same the world over, sad to say. There's pretty much only five gaming magazines worldwide that I'd think would be worth spending rent money on, and Edge is the only one I currently buy...

Damnit, now you got me unexpectantly ranting. Bah! I got homework to do! :)

Gaz, you have yet again renewed my faith in gaming journalism, life and crazy dancing monkies.

Must say I'm looking forward to seeing the fruits of your loins, err, labours in a month -- anything has to be better than some of the drivel that I've been reading recently. I mean ... enough already with the 'hip' dialogue, unfunny captions, poor reviews, JeffK rip-offs and self-indulgent stories about 'how great a reviewer I am because I've got a psych degree and once played Tony Hawk's for 3 hours with the Spider-Man costume unlocked while stoned out of my gourd.' Why do I keep kidding myself that I like these mags? And where can I get some Tang aound here, anyway?

Damn, there I go again. This is a Zzap! discussion board, isn't it ... ummm. Ah, yes ... if you're out there Andy, are you going to write a follow-up letter to Edge when Zzap!107 is released?

Ant

ps goodluck with the homework, Gaz! Make the polys fly!

Hey, thanks for the nod guys. Needless to say, I was pretty damn pleased to see it in print, and was pleasantly surprised that they hadn't edited the hell out of it - what they printed was 95% of what I actually wrote.

Can you put a copy of the letter up here? I'd be interested in reading it!
