My Commodore 64 just won`t work... I power it up and i get the basic screen with a lot of messy characters or else i get a black screen or else another messy basic screen ... Please Email me [email protected] with help!!! |

Sounds like the Character rom has gone awol. If its an old machine you could try pressing down on all the chips as they can become lose over the years causing failure as they are socketed. Earth yourself 1st on a nearby radiator though :-) The charcter rom should be in socket U5 on the motherboard. If this does not work try swapping chips with a working machine to find the culprit. The other main problem chips are the Kernal in U4 or the Basic in U3. If the 64 is a newer 64c you may have to desolder the chips :-) Hope that helps |
