Since my Philips 8833-II monitor have died (RIP) and I've been told by the local companies which repair monitors that it'll cost 70-150 USD to get it fixed, I've been looking around for another solution and I've found plenty of video to vga adaptors.

Most (all?) have a (S)VGA input as well which means I could use any of my (S)VGA monitors for both a PC/Amiga and a C64 without having to (dis-)connect any cables.

Have anyone used such a device? Is there any reason why it shouldn't work with a C64? After all, I have my C64 connected to a TV using the composite video output without problems, and surely any video to vga adapter which claims to support video, DVD, any console etc should also work with the C64, right?

The video to vga adapters cost from 40 to several thousand USD. I feel it would be a better investment to spend a hundred USD on such a device than getting my old monitor repaired.
