Hi folks,
I justed wanted to ask a question about Commodore diskdrives.
I had a whole bunch of 'm, 1541-II's, 1571's etc.
But they all stopped working after a while.
Everything seems fine, they just won't read directories & won't load files.
They make a slight rattling sound, and the led starts blinking. I already dumped some of my drives. Someone said to me that it's only a head alignment problem?
If so can I repair it with software or should I open them up and tweak something?
CAn anybody help? Pleeease? (Mort?)
I had 6 perfectly working drives, but now there are only two left, and I'm afraid to loose them too.
Thanks a million in advance!
Rob the disk-killer :(

There is no easy way of alighning drives, one trick I have found that sometimes works is if you have an action replay cart and format a disk on an out of alignment drive it can knock the head back into shape, also there are some head knocking programs about which bludgeon the drive into realigning itself, just check out some of the util sites and you should find some decent proggys,( i have some but need to type them in!).

I have aligned a drive properly so mail me if you are still stuck at the usual address, (methinks an article is coming on for zzap 108!) but it takes time and a lot of patience.
