Okay, I think it's time to kick start this message board off again and for me to get to write the 100th message!

Do any of you remember when you got your first issue of Zzap and your feelings about it?

My first issue was 41, September 1988. I remember being on Christmas holidays over in London and was in a WH Smith in Cheshunt where my cousin lived, wanting to buy a C64 magazine.

I can't really remember what caught my eye about Zzap, it was probably because it had an extra special large tips section and the great cover of course.

I remember spending hours and hours reading every bit of it that Christmas and by then I was truely hooked and used to go to the Newsagent back home, on the very day that the next issue was meant to be out.

my 1st issue was no.2 as I had missed the first issue as I was away that month on a school exchange to the USA! I saw issue 1 my friend had bought and thought great, rushed down to the newsagent to find only that issue 2 had come out! I bartered a couple of games for the 1st issue later that month (it cost me about £10!) and read it all the way through from 1-116!

i distinctly remember having the hump with my
vic20, and had corrupted loads of tapes by placing them next to the telly! Actually bought the Amstrad mag first (amtix?), followed by the ZZap! with Gunship on the cover...left it lying around until mum and dad finally got the message! First game i had was konami coin op hits (green beret, ping pong, mikie, yie ar kung fu II)

At the moment, I have no idea which my first was - I do remember though, that it had a review of Bangkok Knights inside. That was about 3 months before I got my first C64... and boy did those 3 months seem like forever! :o)

That would be December 1987. I've got this memory "problem" when it comes to Zzap!64 now heh. Also getting good vibes in that issue were Buggy Boy, Nebulus and SEUCK so I think...

Anyhow I started getting Zzap! from issue 19, and managed to get the missing issues a years after that (yes it took a while!). I have all the covertapes to go with them as well.

Anyone with a complete issue 2 (as mine is missing a few pages) should email me as I would be interested...

...Eeeeh! I remember me first Zzap...Twer the December '86 issue with the bloke with an axe bursting through the cover. I read it so much it disintegrated & even copious amounts of sellotape couldn't hold it together. I've never read a mag so extensively - not even Razzle. I went out & bought Antiriad shortly afterwards & an obsession was born...

Issue 19 was my first... my friend finally convinced me to ditch the Speccy once I'd seen Sanxion. I started buying the mag before I got my C64 (xmas 86), right up until I went to university in 89.

I really liked the idea of three reviewers per game, you got a good spread of comments - something I have never seen since, sadly.

Aah, happy days...

I was with it from issue 1.

I never thought a mag could replace PCG.

How wrong I was.

High point was my FGTH high score being printed

Low point was my cousins SO OBVIOUS FAKE High Score also being printed....

My first issue was number 25. It had the great cover of a Zzap64 spaceship destroying all comers.....I can't remember the content of it....but I know I've still got it. I made it my mission to get all the back copies, which I did.

Issue 8 was my first (christmas edition).

These were the days when reviews gave a good indication of a games quality (as ooposed to its marketing). I don't buy any games print media anymore. Zzap was the highpoint of games print media. Everything since has paled into insignificance.

First issue??
I remember the summer of 1986, me dreaming of having a C64...all my friends had one.
Than I came across Zzap 64 at my local newsagent! Issue 17...what a cover!!
It smacked me right in my face, just like what happened with the guy on the cover!
Awesome, though, gruesome cover art-work!
After the first shock, I saw all those cool reviews, big full colour screen-shots....
I couldn't believe my eyes..I was sold immediately. Flicking thru the Zzap pages, reading the reviews, checking out the pics was to me: playing all those games , which I didn't have (yet!) in my mind!
I was hooked, and continued buying this brilliant mag up to nr. 89.
From issue 17 to issue 31 I was living in a dream-state, addicted, trying to survive untill the next issue! Later-on, I started to recover a little bit..(luckily)
In 1995, I moved 6 times in a year, and wanted to get rid of some "unneccesary stuff", I ripped only the "interesting" bits out of my zzap-collection (17-89!) and threw them all AWAY! (..tears are coming up...)
Can you believe it?
Well, I still have a cool zzap-collection, and was able to buy some mags recently, on Ebay. (not too expensive)
Errr, that's my story....

I started with issue 2, as I missed the start of the run. A few months later at a computer show in Earls Court, I managed to get issue 1, and got it signed by Julian Rignall as well. I was dead impressed with the magazine right from the start, and really (and I mean REALLY) loved Rockford and Thingy.

ah , I remember it well -
The summer of '85 - A hot day in Middlesbrough on a shopping trip with Mam and Dad and me moaning for something to read.
When I got ZZAP, I was enthralled - It was Issue 2 and I was glued.
Somehow I missed Issue 3, then got no4 and from then on every issue until the (very sad)end.
I was lucky enough to get back issues of 1 nd 3.
