Oliver Frey, Paul Rand and I think Robin Hogg popped their head in there a few times. Any chance of those guys getting involved?

Oli I emailed recently -- no reply

Robin Hogg has left the industry and I don't think has much interest any more in it (I've also emailed him recently, but he's got a child now, and I think he takes up most of his time)

and as for Paul Rand... again, he's a bit reluctant to get involved.

However, I've emailed Ciaran Brennan, Gary Penn, Paul Glancey, Steve Jarratt, Gary Liddon and Nik Wilde. So far Paul G has replied, saying he'll do stg if he has time.

What about Jaz?

>What about Jaz?<

He's not answering his email -- I've tried a couple of times in the last few months. Wayne Allen (ex Zzap! art director), says Jaz might be lying low for a while, after the recent upheavals at IGN.

I thought he'd gone to Snowball.com or am i behind the times?

I think IGN is PART of Snowball, or the other way round... certainly the IGN site uses Snowball's message boards...

Well, it doesn't look like you need anyone extra but I'll help out if I can.

Maybe I could do some subbing, eh Gordon?

I have some small experience... ;)

Hello everyone, by the way.

Paul.

Ha! Did we? I almost worked in there after the WH Smith next door made me redundant. They were offering £50 a week and my own "The Computer Shop" jumper. Having experienced how mad it was in Smith's on a Saturday (and over Christmas too - shudder!) I wasn't that tempted.

Is that place still there? I haven't been up for a while. I can't believe it would be.

Paul.

the computer shop moved to a larger shop opposite and changed its name to the game store (crap name eh!) then it was bought by
electronic boutique ( still there)

the original shop is now time computers..

those days where great.....i got paid £55
a week and had 1 1/2 days off............
i left there in 1992 after 4 years .

by the way whsmith has gone now too.
it's a birds fashion shop now.

can you remember going into the fenwicks
computer dept on a saturday as a kid
and spending all day fighting off other
kids to play on the coleco vision, vectrex
intelavision and the atari 2600.....?

PaulEMoz posted 13-09-2001 03:43 PM GMT     Click Here to See the Profile for PaulEMoz  Click Here to Email PaulEMoz
Hehe....I remember all those things too (I'm a Geordie too)....and I also remember being in Fenwick's and waiting for aaaaages to play on the "Fire!" Game And Watch! Fenwick's was a madhouse on a Saturday, there must have been half of the North East's kids in there trying to play the games, what a laugh.

Another thing I remember was that, from day one, PG was a fave reviewer of mine when he said he was a fan of Yngwie Malmsteen!!! There aren't exactly millions about, and some that were then definitely aren't now (I still am, though), but when I read that I thought he was great!

I live near Detroit in America now, have done for exactly a year. I miss the hell out of Newcastle though....in fact I often go to the icNewcastle webcams just to get a look at the place.

Yeah, one of the cameras swings around to view that bridge. Very impressive, I'm looking forward to seeing it in person some day.

Who the heckity-heck is Yngwie Malmsteen? At the risk of losing a fan (not another one!) I don't think that was me.

I used to go to Fenwicks after school with my mates (we went to school in Benwell and lived in Forest Hall so we went through the town on the way home) just so we could mooch around playing free 'Spaceys' for an hour.

That must have been around the Christmas of 1983, when they had that vast games department with all of the Galaxy Invaders, Space Intruders, Astro Wars, etc. LCD games, and the Colecovision playing The Smurfs (which was amazing at the time), and Zaxxon (which was really, really amazing at the time). Happy days... sort of.

I can't believe WH Smith's has gone!

Paul.

Hey, it's Paul! :)

Welcome Paul. One of the few Zzap!64 people I failed to meet at some point in time. I got to see Jaz, Gaz, Oli, Gordo, Maff, Robin Hogg and even Lucy Hicknall, but not you. Ah well. You still had a job I wanted to do :)

Maybe soon... if the pay has gotten any better and I am out of a job after Compaq merge with HP...!

I think it was Robin Hogg who was into Yngwie Malmsteen... the poor guy :).

Oh bugger. That's what I get for not reading ZZAP! for years. Still, the fact that one person at The Towers was a fan was the icing on my ZZAP! cake, and PG is a Geordie, so he's still aalreet in my book!
8-)

Have you finished work on Airblade yet ?

Yes I have actually and it's corking!

It's going to be on the shelves of all good game retailers in time for the Christmas buying season so if any of you boys have a PS2 be sure to look out for it!

;)

Incidentally Mayhem, and those who are interested (even Gordon doesn't have this info on his page), Lucy HickMAN, also went to EMAP and briefly worked as Editor of Mean Machines Sega before jacking it all in and studying to be a barrister.

By the way, Alex, haven't you been working on a game? I understand it's the best racing title since Pitstop 2?

Yeah, got my names mixed up there Paul. She actually went to Sega Force after Zzap!64 for some issues before going off to Emap. I used to get that mag too a long time ago...

Hello,

Sorry to all, Gordo in particular for not keeping in contact. Yes, it was me who got a kick out of Yngwie! (Trinity, anyone remember that?).

I am still interested in the ZZAP scene.

Heeeeeeeeeey if it isnt!!!! Robin the road Hog!!! where have you been lad?!?!!?! anyway its good to see u here. Will miracles never cease???

Anyway, i have been a big Malsteem fan too in the days of yore. Now how did those extremely fast and tough to mimic notes for Perpetual go!?!?!! errr... was THAT the name?!?!!

PaulEMoz posted 15-10-2001 02:55 PM GMT     Click Here to See the Profile for PaulEMoz  Click Here to Email PaulEMoz
TWO other Malmsteen fans?? Outstanding!!! Perpetual was indeed the name....I think Robin might have meant Trilogy though 8-)
Yngwie's still going strong, I've got all of his albums....I think his popularity waned somewhat in England and America, but it's growing in other areas of the world, luckily for me, coz that means he keeps making records!

Hi all,

Oops. It was Trilogy, not Trinity, Trilobyte, Trigonometry or anything like that.
