I don't know about you lot , but as a mature gamer, i'm 30 .I'm pretty disappointed with what i see on the shelves these days. The majority of stuff is repeated ad nauseam with just bigger and better graphics.Nothing New ,nothing fresh . Even the blockbusters like half-life and deus-ex (which i did enjoy,I just didn't go apeshit about them)where pretty linear and not whole world away from doom which was very fresh and new for the time but pretty much the same concept. I don't know maybe because i'm older i just want more for my money ,i've gotten cynical the industry dissapoints me ,the games press even more. maybe its just nostagia sweeping over me but i miss the spirit of the 8-bit days (but not the loading times).anyway thats my 2p ,over to you lot ,do you agree or am i just talking out of my arsenal. So much money is spent on games these days that a company cannot risk something not selling, hence turgid sequels ad-nauseum.Ironically, these same companies seem surprised at the downturn in sales... |

I think the reason is fairly simple!!! games were made in older days to make a human mind accomplish his/her fantasy... that was the IDEA of making games... now they want to get closer and closer to real life!! heeeeey if its reality i want... my life is already filled with all the thrills and chills i need! |

The reason you don`t get the same kick today is simply because yer older...nuthin` new any more...buy you gotta remember that for the kids growing up today, the PC games are what the c64 games were 2 us...new and facinating.I`m 28 now, and the last games who really gave me a kick were zelda and mario64...i really miss it :( BUT, soom i will get my gamecube, and THAT will get my adrenalin pumpin` fer sure...WEEEEE |

I know what you mean about Zelda on the N64 -- it was just one of the best games ever... The sequel wasn't quite as good, both in terms of gameplay and impact.G |

I know. Majoras Mask has stood mostly unplayed on my shelf for about a year now...it`s good, but something is missing. But hopefully the next-gen nintendo games will offer something interesting...like pikmin, looks promising...and super monkey ball, that looks like a fun game :) |

Ok fair enough //i may be no spring chicken ,although i do still have all my hair and teeth. My problem is i crave original thrills ..for example i really wanted a gba //but have you seen the games out for it,yeah not to impressive. i don't know gameboys eh, in my day this were all game & watch games. |

I partially agree with Johnny...as u mature, ur tastes change..so u do not get the same kick out of things..and get the done-them-all feeling also. I think most of the technilogical advances in gaming are geared to give the 'realistic' feeling genrex mentioned. Thus I also agree that half-life minus the 3D engine equals 80% Doom...but I am no authority on shooters.Depending on the genre u look, the following titles (on PC) i would call 'legends': Doom/Quake(action)....DuneII(strategy)...Civilization(empire building/strategy)...Monkey Island/Gabriel knight(adventure)...Baldur's gate(RPG) etc. Since my 64/Amiga days..I have gone on tobecome a big fan of the adventure games, and I love the Gabriel knight series (mature people..take note). These games always interest me..since they involve stories and character interaction..and thus carry more value than either a novel or a video. If u r an adventure fan too..u'll know. |

Yes Farhan, I do agree with the maturing part. Like if I remember correctly, the last game i played solid was Diablo 2. Before that i was a die hard Warcraft fan. Waiting for the last eon years for the 2nd sequel to come out.Nice new shooters DO grip me for a while, where i am seen spultring out weird words like 'wow! look at the cool fog effect on this' but seriously, as soon as i am done with letting off my steam of agression , i rarely go back to play the same game! |

The only PC game I play at the moment is Championship Manager, for 3 reasons: a) I'm sad. b) I don't work at the moment so can't afford anything else. c) My PC isn't powerful enough to play anything new anyway.Oops, there's a reason 4: emulators. I enjoy the old games more anyway. Actually, that's now reason 5, enjoying the old games more. They were just generally less complicated, you could play most of them without even reading the instructions, but even the more complex ones I found more enjoyable than recent games. Still, once I am in a position to earn money, I will certainly be giving some newer games a try. |

My name is legion for we are many // what the hell do i mean by that ,well who are these people who make games ? basically they're us , the people who read zzap and played the same games all those years ago programmers and development teams who are full of our peers .people who should be on our wavelength.//i can't accept the innit for the money excuse because people like molyneux still craft original games(which you may or may not like)and seem to make a profit so whats the excuse. Take film idustry look at the bulk of turgid pap that comes out every year /i could use the i'm older, seen it, done it line here .But every year you always get a least one really good film a usual suspects amongst the heist films a clerks in the comedy section .so why not in game land .. damn here come my boss talk amongst yourselves for a while corbs |
