I've got every edition of Zzap!64 that I edited, including the one with the slug on the cover (Steg, was it? Ah, whatever, it was THE worst magazine cover in computer gaming history, and for that I am truly proud. Even though I didn't paint it personally, of course. I think we all know who was really responsible for that particular travesty... sorry Oli!).

Anyway, you all seem inexplicably, er... into the whole Zzap! thing still, so go ahead and make me an offer for my mags - and I'm talking about Zzap! here, okay - NOT the ones I've been editing recently!).

I did have loads of Markie's original pieces of artwork, too, but sadly I got a life some time ago and torched the lot. Hey ho.

Steve, what are you up to these days?

You're right about that cover. It's shit.

I don't know what to make of this offer. Is this for real?

(link with more information and pictures please) :)

Gordon. Gordon, gordon gordon. Gorgo? Gordo? No, no... Gordon! Yes! I think I remember you. Well, sort of. I've been editing Mayfair magazine fot the past 5 years (so you'll forgive me if my memory of Ludlow is a little hazy), and am now working on a top-secret mega-bucks project that I can't talk about (NDAs and all that, y'understand) - oh yes, I have also been receiving sporadic threats from James Price over the past coule of years. He keeps threatening to visit (he's welcome) but is probably still scared that my wife will try to smash his head through a plaster-board wall. Again. It's a long story... ...maybe James would like to recount it for your delectation and, dare I say, delight? It sounds better coming from him.

I'd love to regale everyone with the story of how your dear lady wife smashed my head in, but my memory's a little hazy about the event. In fact, since that night, /everything/ has been a little hazy.

Nice one, Bev: permanent brain damage. Like I didn't have enough shortcomings, you quick-fisted, foul-tempered harpy. ;-)

But anyway.

Steve, didn't you say at the time that the Steg cover '...looks like a big shit?' At least you didn't have to suffer the indignity of the Commodore Force 'Mayhem In Monsterland' cover. It is, without question, the /worst/ videogame magazine cover in the entire history of ever. Oli was really late with the artwork for it and, as I remember, we had a delivery guy waiting to take the cover film to the printers. Markie and Claire [CF designers], in the nick of time, produced a fine replacement. But Oli's 'art' turned up at the last minute, and that was that. If I'd known that the company was on the brink of going tits-up, I'd have used the decent cover, and to hell with it (and my job, probably - remember what happened to MD Johnathan? Precisely.)

So, after all this time Yossarian finally admits to being James... Gordo was right after all! :)

So, now I got it! A slug is a 'slak'!
Right!
Indeed a disgustingly bad cover. Yuk!
Well, I have to say that the last couple of zzaps were so badly put together it almost hurts your eyes reading them! (especially comparing them to the utter-superb first 30/40 issues!
Oh boy, what a major dissapointments were those last issues.
Commodore Force was luckily a little bit better.
But in fact, shouldn't we admit that the real zzap-spirit died when JR left & that Gordon did a nice job trying to maintain it?
After that...
...only issue 107 was interesting :)
