Well this web page is dying, the scans dont work (no doubt cause people are simply loosing interest and its hard to keep up these old hobbies).

What we need is something completely new. Just completely change the web page. Get people who are interested in writing new stuff.

I know for a fact that garry penn is writing a book about the peroid from 84 to 87 at zzap.

That edge mag about retro games totally refreshed the retro scene. It was great it was interesting and it was written with genuine interest.

We need to create a new place that people would be interested in. Not just a rehash of old zzap stuff but a genuine repository for information on the founding years of games creation. A place where you would look to find out info on where a genre first started. Or what was the lineage of the platform game?

It would be a library, but librarys have a usage in todays life. Remanicing about old stuff, and "how it used to be" has never had a place.

Comments?

In many ways, I agree. Personally, I reckon the site shouldn't bother too much about having all the Issues online. Instead, it could be a cool site about Zzap!64, how it was to work there and so on, with interviews and articles about ex-staff, the mag, the industry and so on. I imagine Gordo and Rob would probably contribute something and Steve would probably be happy to be interviewed.

I also offered to redesign the site for Iain, although I never got any sort of reply. I was thinking of basing the home page on the style of the classic Zzap!64 intro page, and leading to articles from there.

As for the Issues themselves, let people order the CDs if they want them.

Yeah, given all the hassle Iain's had with leechers and webspace, I wouldn't bother with the issues, either -- apart from Zzap!107, which would be a nice bonus for the site. As you suggest, if people really want the old issues, the CDs aren't expensive at all (and a lot cheaper than sourcing the set on ebay).

And being an interview/contributor whore, I'd happily contribute Zzap! stuff to anyone's site.

OK, back to hibernating now.
