I have just tried to download an emulator and failed, however i can save games without a problem. Any sugestions ?

Obviously check that you have followed all
the on-screen instructions properly....
Apart from that I would suggest trying a
different internet site, as certain ones
promise free downloads, and they never work!!
Another solution would be to buy an emulator
on CDROM - HMV used to sell them, but I know a couple of mail order companies also do -
adverts can be found in the back of Computeractive magazine. Hope this helps!

Which emulator are you trying to use, if its pc I would guess its Vice or CCs64. IMHO I think CCs64 is the better of them. I have listed the links for the readme:

thats anoying, did have a decent emulator + spectrum emulators + games on cd from the cover of a pc magazine, from some months ago, but they went in a theft, would have sent them to you, perhaps someone else has a copy ??
