I think my 64 is damaged. One day,i went to load THE HOBBIT
from tape and the 64 froze.
I turned it back on,and all the usual writing was flashing all colours.
Now,it works 1ce when you turn it on,after that the cursor moves on its own
and types characters even though im nowhere near the keyboard.
Is it possible that the tape damaged the ROM?

Thanks fortaking the time to read this.
Any ideas?

Help apriceated!

Cheers,
ryan

The tape definitely didn't damage your C64, it's sounds like a chip or two has blown, I think the CIA chip displays screwed up screens and moves the curser when it's damaged. The cheapest option would probably to buy a new C64 off eBay, you can get them for about £20+.

Funnily enough, I have one available for auction right now! :)

Try to swap out the character rom or cia as these are the main cuprits, check my article in zzap107, if you have another old 64 as a donor then swapping should be easy, otherwise get another 64 as Iain stated whilst they are cheap, and repair one with the other when the other blows, unlikely and unlucky if it develops the same fault :?
