yup it got me 2.

Spent ages typing it out - 1 finger typist in those early days with plenty of errors to check.

Also IMMSMC it came out as "loof lipra" when you were supposed to press the C64 or space bar keys to load the game.

Zzap64 and AB owe me 1 summer afternoon of my childhood..........

In the dark and distant past (mist swirls etc for atmosphere) I have to admit I made a vague living writing type in listings. Most successful was Home Computing Weekly (who being weekly needed more material than most) and I was there at the end................Dave Carlos the editor called me up and asked me to write a Guy Fawkes game 'But make it short'. It was my first commission from them after selling games and articles for several months.

I always suffered from ideas of grandeur when it came to Basic and it quickly escalated into a two level epic, only for HCW to go belly up just as I finished the blooming thing.

In a similar vein I sold to Big K, a boxing game, but luckily then printed and paid before disappearing.

This led to my path to the Dark Side. I renamed my Guy Fawkes game to be about his unkown brother and it became Roy Fawkes in Raiders of the Houses of Parliament, which meant I didn't have to sell it for a November issue and flogged it to Computer and Video Games for £80. I then found that a game I had written called 'Striker' (not THE Striker - it was in Basic - you kicked the ball and then controlled the ball towards a goal with a 'computer controlled' goalie) could be altered with just two lines to put you in control of the keeper and it became Goalie and sold seperately.

A Rugby game with a change of sprites became Ice Hockey etc etc.

Sorry, but it has been over a quarter of a century and I finally needed to confess...........................I'll now leave the couch for the next patient.
I loved my grandmother very, very much and she fetched a good price on eBay.

Looked for it in Gamebase 64 and didn't find it. Got a copy?

This one? If so, it didn't have a favourable review, to say the least.

Remember these were just type in listings so I doubt anyone would have bothered to list them. My 'Striker' is not the one reviewed - just a type in.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I was curious, so I dragged out my Mort Scans, found issue 24, messed around with it, OCR'd the text, Tok64'd into a .prg and didn't get nothing about "April Fools"..... or did I convert the wrong program? I got 6510 ACCELERATOR BY ANDREW BRAYBROOK, a light grey flashing line on the border and then the cursor sped up, which I can remember you could do with a poke....

I ended up with ..

10 B=0
20 FOR X=49152 TO 49463
30 READ C
40 B=B+C
50 POKE X,C
60 NEXT X
70 IF B<>44878 THEN PRINT "ERROR": END
80 SYS 49152
90 PRINT "{down}{down}{down}NEW{up}{up}{up}"
100 END
