Elite Dangerous on Kickstarter

Post by Mort »

Hi Guys
Best game IMHO is being kickstarted into the 21st century, Elite :-)

Been waiting for a new version for a long time (almost 20 years) Oolite have kept the pangs at bay but the Grandaddy might be back on track.

Just need another ZZap cover with Elite on it now

Have submitted a pledge :-) :D

Have to say, I'm sceptical - not least because he has gone the Kickstarter route after repeatedly failing to find a traditional publisher for previous attempts to revive Elite. Elite is Elite is the only Elite for me, and that's how it should stay.

Interesting, but I'm still unsure about using this to fund a commercial project. Normally investors want to see a return and sure if it's funding an open source or non commercial project, one isn't expected, but if this game happens and makes money, the initial "investors" get no real return from that.

They take the risk and have no real reward apart from getting the game, which is probably enough for the lower donations but it doesn't really make sense to me for the higher levels.

I agree with that Iain, been waiting best part of 20 years for a decent sequel ,will see what transpires. Hope it happens as it was my favourite game of the time 8)

Similar but not the same provenance,

Have been playing Oolite and Pioneer which have been good substitutes :-)

This is partly why I am not keen on Kickstarter. There used to be film investments, where you could get your name on the credits and share in the profits.
