C64 and Disk Drive Pack

Post by Iain »

In the editorial for issue 93 (March 1993), Steve mentioned the available of a C64 pack with a disk drive for only £150.

Did anybody ever see one of these in the wild or in an advert back in the day? It sounded like a rather good deal since buying them separately at this stage (1993) would have gotten you an Atari ST or even near an Amiga for the same price!

To (possibly) answer my own question, I wonder if this ad refers to the package:

Oasis Computer Services Advert - C64 / 1541II & Software Pack £178.99

Bit over the £150 the editorial mentioned though...

To be fair, they do state that their price included VAT and postage & packing.

For £150 or £178.99? :)

I could be sarcastic and say "I don't know how much, it was a present"

But it was roughly £150

Were they packaged in their own special box together or just the regular C64 box and the regular 1541-II box?

I can't see much / any reference or photos to it online.

It was a Mindbenders / Night Moves package with the games on disk. Inside were three separate boxes - the games, the C64C and the 1541-II.

Interesting and quite a good deal, even that late in the day. I wonder were they just clearing out remaining stock of disk drives at that stage.

Don't talk to me about bargains! The most recent issue I was doing for the ZzapBible (issue 93 I believe) and they had Zzap binders to clear for £1.50 in the Zzuperstore, along with full price Commodore Force ones, but I guess I was much more interested in Amiga mags at that stage :(
